Titanic couple’s gold pocket watch sells for record-breaking £1.78m

A gold pocket watch that belonged to an aged couple who drowned because the Titanic sunk has bought for a record-breaking £1.78m at public sale.

The 18-carat Jules Jurgensen engraved timepiece was owned by top notch passenger Isidor Straus, who died when the ship sank in April 1912, and was returned to his household after being recovered from his physique.

Mr Straus and his spouse Ida had been portrayed within the movie Titanic as a pair who held one another because the ship went down.
