Swiss officers say ski resort fireplace appeared to begin from sparkler candles | Full information convention
Watch because the Swiss authorities maintain a information convention after the lethal New Year’s fireplace at a ski resort.
Valais lawyer basic Beatrice Pilloud says the prosecution service is "sparing no effort in order to determine the circumstances of this tragic event".
"It would appear that the fire started from sparkler candles, otherwise known as flares, which were placed on top of champagne bottles," she says.
"These flares were taken too close to the ceiling. This led to what is referred to as a flashover incident, where the fire spread very rapidly."
