West Midlands Police chief has been ‘thrown beneath a bus’ over Maccabi fan ban fallout

Ayoub Khan, Independent MP for Birmingham Perry Bar, has insisted that West Midlands Police chief, Craig Guildford has been "thrown under a bus".

Guildford retired amid criticism of the power’s resolution to ban followers of Israeli crew Maccabi Tel Aviv from a recreation towards Aston Villa final 12 months.

But Mr Khan hit out on the resolution telling Sky News: "He protected Brummies, he protected the local communities and he has been thrown under the bus for doing his job."

He went on to say it was "trial by media, false narratives spun right from the very top and the writing was on the wall when the home secretary made her statement in parliament."
