UK’s most senior civil servant Sir Chris Wormald to go away No 10
Cabinet secretary Sir Chris Wormald – the UK’s most senior civil servant – is leaving Downing Street.
The transfer was selected "by mutual agreement" between the prime minister and the cupboard secretary and can take impact instantly, based on a press release from the Cabinet Office.
Sir Chris stated it has been an "honour and a privilege" to be a civil servant for 35 years and a "particular distinction" to steer the service as cupboard secretary – a task he was appointed to in December 2024.
