Mammoths star in monumental artwork present
These mammoths are the work of the artist Nick Cave, and are only one part of a monumental present on the Smithsonian American Art Museum wherein the artist catalogs and transforms 1000’s of objects of American life.
“Mammoth," which opened February 13, is the establishment’s largest fee by a single artist up to now. The present calls into query how historical past is shaped and what’s buried or excavated, significantly with the symbolism of the titular creature.
It opens at a time when the Smithsonian is underneath elevated federal scrutiny, although the present has been years within the making.
“I’m witnessing a time where history is being erased, but yet history is being revealed at the same time,” Cave advised CNN. #cnn #information
