Starmer misled parliament over Mandelson appointment, says Tory chief

Conservative Party chief Kemi Badenoch has accused Sir Keir Starmer of "misleading" parliament over the appointment of Peter Mandelson because the UK’s ambassador to the US.

It comes after The Guardian reported that Lord Mandelson failed his safety vetting clearance previous to being given the function, however that the choice was overruled by the Foreign Office.

Mandelson was sacked in September 2025 after additional particulars emerged about his hyperlinks to the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
