This morning, the previous boss of the Foreign Office, Sir Philip Barton, will give proof to MPs on the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, who’re trying into the Mandelson vetting scandal.

After that, the PM’s former chief of employees, Morgan McSweeney, may also be grilled by the committee.

It was McSweeney who suggested Starmer to nominate Peter Mandelson within the first place. He resigned because the PM’s right-hand man in February as stress grew over the scandal.
