38°C in the UK: How the country has responded
The extreme weather has caused a range of events and responses across the country:
– Volunteers delivered food parcels to those too vulnerable to face the heat.
– A fire broke out in Lickey Hills, Worcestershire and spread half a square kilometre.
– Health Secretary Steve Barclay said "additional resources have been put in place" using existing contingency plans as the UK faces what the UK Health Security Agency described as a "national emergency".
