Years in the past, Richard Simmons reached out on to ABC News’ Diane Sawyer. After practically a decade of silence, he needed to share his story.
Then, in 2024, as preparations had been being made for the interview, he died.
ABC News was then invited to his California residence by Richard’s brother, who needed to honor Richard’s want for Sawyer to inform his life story.
"The Mystery of Richard Simmons: A Diane Sawyer Special" airs on Tuesday, May 12 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC and streams the following day on Disney+ and Hulu.
