White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday the White House is "willing to take every step necessary to bring home our people as we demonstrated with Trevor Reed" after WNBA star Brittney Griner was sentenced to 9 years in prison by a Russian court for drug possession and smuggling. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said the U.S. condemned China’s military exercises around Taiwan in response to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stop at the island. “We condemn these actions, which are irresponsible and at odds with our longstanding on maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and in the region.”
