Mother and ex-boyfriend sentenced to life in jail over homicide of 18-month-old Alfie Phillips

The mom of an 18-month-old boy and her former associate have been given life sentences for his homicide. Alfie Phillips was crushed and smothered, struggling 70 accidents to his physique, together with a "myriad of bruises" and damaged ribs, legs and arms, in what prosecutors described as an evening of "violent discipline".

His mom, Sian Hedges, 27, and her ex-boyfriend Jack Benham, 35, had been ingesting whisky and taking cocaine. Traces of the Class A drug have been present in Alfie’s physique, Maidstone Crown Court was advised.
