Royal Navy member dies whereas conducting ‘harmful’ coaching train at night time

A Royal Navy member who died when a helicopter ditched into the Channel was conducting a "dangerous" coaching operation that seems to have gone "horribly wrong", a former Royal Navy officer has instructed Sky News.

James Gater explains extra concerning the coaching train and stated: "conducting these kind of operations, whether in peacetime or wartime, is a dangerous evolution" however "the Royal Navy says it is ready to fight tonight" so they should conduct coaching in "realistic scenarios".

He added: "I fear that this was just another training exercise that for reasons that we do not know yet went tragically wrong".
