News convention following watchdog report into Greater Manchester Police dealing with of grooming gangs
A police power that needed to apologise to victims over a long time of failure over grooming gangs is now investigating greater than 1,000 suspects, a watchdog has stated.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has made “significant improvements” in the way it investigates group-based sexual exploitation of kids, or grooming gangs, and different sorts of baby sexual abuse offences, in keeping with the report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS).
Kate Green, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester and Sir Stephen Watson, Chief Constable, Greater Manchester Police, will reply to the findings at a press convention at 0800 at present.
The 76-page report stated police have dwell investigations into “multi-victim, multi-offender” baby sexual exploitation inquiries, involving 714 victims and survivors, and 1,099 suspects.
