Acquitted dealer: ‘We bought caught up in politics’

City dealer Tom Hayes says he ‘bought caught up in quite a lot of politics’ after his jail sentence for rigging benchmark rates of interest was overturned.

The Supreme Court quashed the convictions of Hayes and fellow dealer Carlo Palombo after the Court of Appeal dismissed their appeals final yr.

The former Citigroup and UBS dealer was handed a 14-year jail sentence – lower to 11 years on enchantment – in 2015, which was one of many hardest ever to be imposed for white-collar crime in UK historical past.
