Coca-Cola introduces a soda flavor inspired by the future, developed with the assistance of AI technology.

Coca-Cola attributes the development of its latest cola flavor, Y3000, to artificial intelligence.

The company stated on Tuesday that both the product’s visual design and its flavoring were created using AI assistance.

Y3000, as the name suggests, invokes the possible consumer palates of people in the year 3000. The visual identity, meanwhile, uses violet, cyan, magenta and silver to represent what consumers see as futuristic.



The product page for Coca-Cola Y3000 states that it was designed to present a positive outlook on the future, emphasizing the increased connection between humanity and technology. This particular version of the soda is sugar-free.

Researchers at the company collected “essential flavor preferences and trends to gain insights into how consumers envision and anticipate the tastes of the future,” a spokesperson told CNBC.

“In a statement, Oana Vlad, senior director of global strategy at Coca-Cola, expressed the hope that Coca-Cola will remain just as significant and invigorating in the year 3000 as it currently is. To explore this idea further, we set ourselves the task of imagining the taste of a future Coke.”

The company did not say what flavors Y3000 will be blending together. Ms. Vlad previously told CNN regarding a previous limited-time flavor that “the flavor profile is always, we say, 85 to 90% Coke. And then that 10-to-15% twist of something unexpected.”

A regular version of Coke will be sold in North American markets, including Mexico. The zero sugar option will be available in Europe, Africa, China, the U.S., and Canada.

The limited-edition soda is the latest in the company’s Creations line, which has featured other short-time soda offerings around other high concept “flavors,” including Coca-Cola Move, Coca-Cola Dreamworld, and Coca-Cola Soul Blast.

Coca-Cola stated that these sodas with undisclosed flavors are designed to take advantage of current trends, specifically AI and the future.

Ms. Vlad stated that the purpose of each individual drop is to utilize cutting-edge technologies and contemporary cultural trends in order to generate unique experiences.
