Crafting A Chimp Fit For A Haunted House | Making Monsters | Travel Channel
Every year Distortions takes its very best and latest props to The Transworld Halloween & Attractions Show in St. Louis, Missouri. The haunters are getting used to Distortions’ "Shocktronic" tactics, and are becoming harder to scare, so this year owners Ed and Marsha Edmunds have come up with a list of new "Shocktronics" to catch these professional haunters off guard. With just a handful of days until show time, Distortions has enlisted their top sculptors to create a multitude of monsters including a terrifying pregnant zombie, a crazed, saw-off, lab tested chimpanzee, and an unsettling collection of frightening clowns. Sculptor Mikey Rotella has his work cut out for him on this trip to Distortions’ Greeley, Colorado warehouse. He sculpts a ravenous Death Worm that snatches a cat, a larger-than-life clown, and a giant chimpanzee of his own invention that’s hanging in a lab. To top all that, Mikey gets the privilege of slipping into the ape’s mask he’s created and scare professional haunters at the Transworld show. This is Mikey’s first trip with Distortions and he can’t wait! While Mikey tackles those props, Jordu Schell gets his hands dirty sculpting a pregnant zombie mom whose large hospital gown hides an actor in a baby mask waiting to pop out and scare unsuspecting haunters. Jordu has been invited to Transworld to showcase his painting talents and gets to see his Zombie Mom in action for the first time. Landon Meier dives in to a crazy carnie clown who’s cut his mouth from ear to ear exposing his fleshy jaw when he smiles. Lastly, Chris J’Tot, a former Distortions employee from twenty years ago, sculpts a burning man in a barrel and endures some shock treatment from resident mechanic, Mike Glover. With a stack of new monsters, Ed and Marsha fight the impending Transworld deadline every step of the way having to overcome broken props and general product malfunctions all the through the first day at Transworld!
Making Monsters is a fascinating look at the world of animatronics and mask makers. Ed Edmunds and his small staff work tirelessly to create some of the scariest animatronics and ""frightronics"" the haunt industry has ever seen.
