President-elect Donald Trump and Melania Trump paid respects to former President Jimmy Carter because the thirty ninth president lies in state contained in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.

Carter is being honored with a funeral service on Thursday at Washington National Cathedral, simply miles north of the White House.
