The cordon on Whitehall is now being taken down after a car crashed into the gates of Downing Street.
One man was arrested by armed police officers on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving.
Footage obtained by Sky News shows the car stopped in front of the iconic gates of Downing Street.
