Drought ‘very likely’ for south of England and Wales
Water chiefs are preparing for drought as the Met Office confirmed England’s driest eight-month period since 1976.
No areas are officially in drought so far, but most of England has already moved into ‘prolonged dry weather’ status – the first of four drought categories.
Officials at the Environment Agency (EA) are already transferring water to low-running rivers, rescuing fish and re-oxygenating water – while water companies are urging people to save water.
