EU leaders arrive in Brussels for unprecedented showdown over the usage of frozen Russian belongings
EU leaders arrive in Brussels to attempt to agree on the discharge of €210bn to assist fund Ukraine’s struggle with Russia.
Many leaders throughout the bloc need to use tens of billions of euros of frozen Russian belongings to assist increase a mortgage for Ukraine for the following two years.
But some members have voiced opposition to doing so previously.
Before the assembly, Sky’s Europe correspondent Alistair Bunkall instructed Mornings presenters Sophy Ridge and Wilfred Frost:
"If they are successful and they do find an agreement and they do get that money to Ukraine, not only would it allow Ukraine to continue fighting, it will really give the EU certainly a stronger hand in negotiations."
"If they are largely funding Ukraine, it will be a strong message to Vladimir Putin that Europe is united, not divided."
"And it will likely be a reasonably robust message to Donald Trump as properly, who has been totally disparaging of Europe in current days and weeks, that truly Europe does have some enamel.
"So there is a lot riding on today."
