That’s the query Emmanuel Macron will probably be asking the younger individuals of France this week when he proclaims a plan to introduce voluntary navy service.
The risk posed by Russia and a US that has a questionable dedication to NATO means Mr Macron is not the one European chief who has needed to ponder such a transfer.
Should the UK observe France’s lead and introduce some type of navy service?
