Federal Judge Blocks JetBlue’s $3.8 Billion Acquisition of Spirit Airlines

A federal choose on Tuesday blocked JetBlue Airways from buying Spirit Airlines, agreeing with the Justice Department that the $3.8 billion deal would remove a competitor essential to price-conscious vacationers.
The Justice Department mentioned JetBlue’s buy of Spirit would take away an ultra-low-cost provider that advantages vacationers and places stress on different airways to maintain down fares. Removing Spirit as a rival would free JetBlue to lift costs by as a lot as 30%, the federal government mentioned. JetBlue is the nation’s sixth-largest provider, and Spirit ranks seventh.
