Former Tory minister backs early launch jail scheme

Former Conservative cupboard minister Jonathan Aitken says the federal government is doing the "right thing" by liberating prisoners early.

The authorities set free 1,750 prisoners final week as a part of the early launch scheme geared toward combating jail overcrowding.

Mr Aitken was jailed for 18 months in 1999 after admitting perjury and perverting the course of justice.

He is now a jail chaplain and spoke to Sky News in regards to the scenario in prisons, and his personal path from prisoner to chaplain.
