‘Furious’ Starmer says it’s ‘unforgivable’ he wasn’t informed Mandelson failed vetting

Sir Keir Starmer has stated it’s "staggering" that he was not knowledgeable that Peter Mandelson had failed safety vetting forward of his appointment as UK ambassador to the US.

Speaking to Sky’s Sam Coates, the prime minister said that it was "unforgivable" that he nonetheless had not been made conscious of the failed vetting when he informed parliament that "due process" had been adopted.

Sir Keir is dealing with calls from the Tories and Reform UK – and from a few of his personal MPs – to resign over the scandal.
