‘Government has been negotiating in good religion with British Steel’s homeowners,’ says Reynolds
The prime minister has recalled Parliament for a uncommon Saturday sitting, with each Houses summoned again to Westminster.
MPs will debate and go emergency laws to "protect" the British Steel plant in Scunthorpe, which Sir Keir Starmer described as "essential for our future".
Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds opens the talk by saying: "we meet under exceptional circumstances to take exceptional action in what are exceptional times."
He says they haven’t made the choice to recall Parliament "lightly", however that he’s "genuinely grateful" that MPs have returned to go "emergency legislation that is unequivocally in our national interest".
