The proprietor of The Guardian is urgent forward with the sale of the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper to Tortoise Media, simply hours after scores of journalists went on strike in protest of the deal.
Guardian Media Group (GMG) and its guardian, the Scott Trust, confirmed on on 6 December that the sale of The Observer to Tortoise Media – first reported by Sky News – would proceed.
As a part of the deal, the Scott Trust will turn out to be considered one of Tortoise Media’s largest shareholders, with a £25m funding in The Observer having been raised by the six-year-old start-up.
