Hundreds of migrants crossed the Channel on Saturday, following the longest pause in arrivals in seven years.
There had been nobody arriving on small boats for 28 days – a pause not seen since 2018.
December is generally one of many quietest for Channel crossings, with a mix of poor visibility, low temperatures, much less daylight and stormy climate making the journey extra harmful.
