Hurricane Helene newest: ‘Extremely harmful’ storm strengthens because it makes landfall in Florida

Helene has made landfall in northwestern Florida as a Category 4 hurricane, with forecasters warning of a "catastrophic" storm surge.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami stated Helene struck close to the mouth of the Aucilla River within the Big Bend space of Florida’s Gulf Coast at round 11.10pm native time.

High winds, probably in extra of 140mph (225kph), and flash floods are attainable, the climate service stated.
