Former England cricketer Graham Thorpe died after being struck by a practice at a railway station in Surrey, the opening of an inquest into his loss of life has heard.
His spouse Amanda and daughter Kitty had earlier instructed The Times the 55-year-old took his personal life on 4 August after "suffering from major depression and anxiety".
Thorpe was considered one of many best batters of his era and performed 100 Test matches for England.
However, his spouse instructed The Times he had develop into so sick "he really did believe that we would be better off without him".
