Iryna Vereshchuk: Internally displaced persons cannot be evicted without providing them with other housing
The situation with displaced persons temporarily living in educational institutions was discussed at a meeting chaired by Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories.
On the eve of the new academic year, Ministry for the Reintegration of Temporary Occupied Territories began to receive complaints from internally displaced persons (IDPs) that some educational institutions want to evict them.
According to Iryna Vereshchuk, 312 such signals were received on Ministry’s hotlines in the period from July 7 to 13. It is not uncommon for migrants to be charged rent for temporary shelter.
At the meeting it was decided:
local authorities in the regions should create additional reserve places for accommodating IDPs;
temporary shelters for IDPs will be reconstructed or repaired before the cold weather.
“People who had to temporarily relocate to educational institutions should be provided with alternative housing habitable, insulated and repaired before the beginning of the school year. Without this condition, their eviction is inadmissible!” stressed the Deputy Prime Minister.
