The Italian Air Force despatched two jets to escort an American Airlines airplane from New York after it was diverted to Rome whereas en path to Delhi, India. The airplane was diverted on account of a safety concern, which later proved to be “non-credible." American Airlines stated: "The flight landed safely at FCO, and regulation enforcement inspected and cleared the plane for re-departure."
