James Cleverly backs under-fire Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle

Home Secretary James Cleverly has advised Sky News he doesn’t need the Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle to resign over his dealing with of a Commons vote on Gaza.

He stated Sir Lindsay "made a mistake. He’s apologised for the mistake. My view is that I’m supportive of him".

Chaos erupted within the Commons after the Speaker broke from conference by permitting a vote on a Labour modification to an SNP movement calling for a direct ceasefire in Gaza.
