Though Joseph in the end pleaded not responsible to lewd and lascivious conduct involving illegal sexual exercise with a minor, Jim Bob had warned him in an e mail, "You are just going to have to accept the situation at this point." Jim Bob wrote within the March 25 message, per information obtained by E! News from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas, "It’s also fine to pray that God would have mercy on you, but you’re probably gonna face major consequences for several years to come."
