Jury awards Georgia election employees $148 million in damages over Rudy Giuliani’s 2020 vote lies

A jury dominated that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani should pay $148 million in damages to a pair of Georgia election employees he defamed following the 2020 election.

The eight-person jury selected the award after an almost weeklong trial in a federal court docket in Washington.

Mr. Giuliani, who served as former President Donald Trump’s lawyer and advisor on the finish of his tenure within the White House, was sued by Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss.



A federal decide beforehand dominated that Mr. Giuliani was responsible for defaming the mother-daughter duo. He unfold false claims that the pair engaged in a faux poll processing scheme whereas they labored as election employees in Fulton County.

The jury’s $148 million verdict is way greater than what the pair had been asking. Ms. Freeman sought $23.9 million, whereas her daughter requested for $24.7 million.

Mr. Giuliani is required to pay way more:

• $16,171,000 to Ms. Freeman for defamation.

• $16,998,000 to Ms. Moss for defamation.

• $40 million to each for emotional misery.

• $75 million in punitive damages to each.
