Labour MP Phillip Brickell defended the choice by his social gathering’s governing physique to dam Andy Burnham from standing as MP – because it might value "£4.7m to hold a mayoral by-election." He mentioned the social gathering "now needs to move forward".
The prime minister "is not scared of Andy Burnham – Burnham is a fantastic mayor for Greater Manchester, he is doing a great job," he added.
"If Andy wanted to come back to Manchester, I don’t know why he didn’t do that in 2024 when there were lots of new Labour MPs who stood for election – who came to Westminster for the first time."
