Middle East newest: Israel unleashes enormous strikes on Beirut – it says Hezbollah chief is the goal

Israel has unleashed a sequence of giant strikes on Beirut, with its navy saying it struck the central headquarters of the militant group Hezbollah.

The first wave of assaults shook home windows throughout the Lebanese capital and despatched thick clouds of smoke billowing into the air.

Israel says Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah was the meant goal of the strike however a senior Israeli official stated it was too early to say whether or not the assault was profitable.
