Mother will ‘by no means forgive’ medics as inquest jury guidelines that daughter, 12, was ‘failed’
A 12-year-old lady who died after an incident of self-harm was failed on a number of ranges, an inquest jury at Sheffield Coroner’s Court has discovered.
Mia Lucas, who died in January 2024, was discovered unresponsive at an the Becton Centre, an NHS kids’s psychiatric unit, after struggling an "acute psychotic episode" attributable to a uncommon neurological dysfunction that had been left undiagnosed.
Chloe Hayes, Mia’s mom, mentioned she believes her daughter was "badly let down" by medics after a jury discovered that the failure to carry out a lumbar puncture on the Queen’s Medical Centre Nottingham, "possibly contributed" to her loss of life.
