Motorists who fail roadside drug checks are being allowed to proceed to drive for as much as six months due to a backlog in testing confirmatory blood samples.
Some of these drivers have gone on to kill behind the wheel whereas their outcomes are pending.
The backlog and delay have been described as "unacceptable" by the households of a few of those that have died in accidents brought on by drug-drivers on bail.
