The new prime minister of France may have a "huge challenge" forward of him as he faces a "fragmented parliament and country", a former French diplomat has instructed Sky News.
President Emmanual Macron has named former Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier as France’s prime minister.
Former French diplomat and political adviser to the French ambassador within the UK, Francois-Joseph Schichan, instructed Sky News he did not assume he was President Macron’s "first pick" however he has "a lot of experience" and is a "safe pair of hands".
