Thirty-four new Swiss Guard recruits pledged their conventional oath within the Vatican on Monday and swore allegiance to Pope Francis of their distinctive means, elevating three fingers to evoke the Holy Trinity whereas shouting the pontifical oath.
The world’s smallest military, based in 1506 by Pope Julius II, continues to be recruited from a bunch of Swiss cities and villages which have offered the Vatican since then with males who guard the pope and the Apostolic Palace.
