Mamdani’s win within the Democratic mayoral main towards then-favourite Andrew Cuomo – a former New York governor making a political comeback from a sexual harassment scandal – shocked the nation.
But polls now have him because the agency favorite to take over from outgoing mayor Eric Adams.
He’s nonetheless up towards Mr Cuomo, who’s now working as an unbiased, together with Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
If New Yorkers vote him in, Mr Mamdani would be the metropolis’s first Muslim and Indian American mayor. He may even be the youngest and most liberal New York City chief in generations.
