‘Of course they knew’: Labour authorities conscious of poor state of public funds, says IFS boss

The director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has stated the incoming Labour authorities would have been conscious, to a big diploma, of "how bad things are in terms of public finances".

Speaking to Ali Fortescue on Sky’s Politics Hub, Paul Johnson stated the IFS and plenty of others "made it clear" that it might be "very hard to avoid cuts", including that public providers such because the NHS, social care and prisons are in a "terrible state".

Mr Johnson’s feedback come amid experiences that the federal government is dealing with a £20bn "black hole" in public funds, with Chancellor Rachel Reeves vowing to "fix" the "mess" left behind by the Tories.
