Ian Watkins was serving a 29-year jail time period for a number of sexual offences, together with severe crimes towards younger youngsters and infants at HMP Wakefield, in West Yorkshire.
He was attacked with a knife by one other inmate on Saturday morning, sources have confirmed.
West Yorkshire Police mentioned detectives from the murder and main inquiry staff are investigating after jail employees reported the assault on Watkins, who was pronounced useless on the scene.
