The White House says Donald Trump is taking a look at a proposal put ahead by Pakistan calling for the US and Iran to conform to a two-week ceasefire.
The US president warned on Tuesday that "a whole civilization will die tonight" if Iran failed to fulfill his 1am BST deadline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran says it would ramp up assaults on its Gulf neighbours if the US strikes its energy vegetation.
