At least two senior civil servants knew weeks in the past that Peter Mandelson had failed safety vetting for his US ambassador function, Sky News understands.
But they didn’t go over the data to the prime minister as a result of they had been ready for authorized checks on what data might be launched, in line with a Cabinet Office spokesperson.
