Head of the police watchdog Sir Andy Cooke says police should use "common sense" to determine what’s a criminal offense and what’s offensive.
It follows a report into the state of policing in England and Wales which known as for pressing reforms in terms of investigating hateful language and hate crimes.
Sir Andy hit out after the extensive condemnation of comedy author Graham Linehan’s arrest, publicly, by 5 armed officers for tweeting messages about trans points, which allegedly incited violence.
