Democratic Rep. Brittany Pettersen held her new child child whereas talking on the House ground in favor of a petition to permit distant voting for brand new mother and father.
"It is unfathomable that in 2025, we have not modernized Congress," Pettersen mentioned whereas bouncing her nine-week-old son named Sam.
House Republican management launched a joint rule that may have blocked Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s bipartisan discharge petition to permit proxy voting for brand new lawmaker mother and father as much as 12 weeks after giving beginning.
However, that vote failed 206-222, with 9 Republicans siding with a unanimous Democratic caucus to type an uncommon bipartisan coalition — throwing the House in a short lived paralysis with the shock growth.
