‘Secret’ negotiations with Dems on border prompts GOP senators to demand ‘transparent process’
A bunch of Republican senators on Sunday pressed their management to convene the GOP convention to temporary them on negotiations with Democrats to strengthen southern border safety.
The ask comes amid closed-door talks with Democrats and the Biden administration on insurance policies that will be included in a overseas help bundle for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan that the chamber has struggled to cross for weeks.
“Rushed and secret negotiations with Democrats who want an open border and who caused the current crisis will not secure the border,” mentioned the letter to Republican Conference Chair John Barrasso of Wyoming. “The American public deserves an open and transparent process which cannot occur until the House returns the week of January 8, 2024.”
The Republicans requested {that a} assembly solely happen after Congress reconvenes from its vacation break.
The letter was led by Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and signed by fellow conservatives Mike Lee of Utah, Rick Scott and Marco Rubio of Florida, JD Vance of Ohio, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt of Missouri, Ted Budd of North Carolina, James Risch of Idaho, Roger Marshall of Kansas, Ted Cruz of Texas, Mike Braun of Indiana and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
