Senior minister admits flaws in plan to return unlawful migrants post-Brexit
A senior Tory has admitted there have been flaws within the plan to return unlawful migrants after the UK left the EU, regardless of pledges by Boris Johnson that Brexit would imply taking again management of Britain’s borders.
In a leaked recording obtained by Sky News, Chris Philp MP, now shadow residence secretary, mentioned Britain’s exit from the EU – and finish of UK participation within the Dublin settlement which governs EU-wide asylum claims – meant they realised they "can’t any longer rely on sending people back to the place where they first claimed asylum".
