The Blues have reported that defenseman Torey Krug sustained an injury to his right foot during his preparations for the upcoming season.

On Tuesday, general manager Doug Armstrong announced that Torey Krug, a defenseman for the St. Louis Blues, sustained an injury to his right foot during his training for the upcoming NHL season.

The duration of Krug’s absence was not disclosed by the Blues, except for mentioning that he will undergo reevaluation on October 1st.

St. Louis opens the season Oct. 12 at Dallas. Krug’s injury is a pre-training camp blow to the organization that’s attempting to return to the playoffs quickly after a rare down season and trading away Stanley Cup-winning forwards Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan O’Reilly.

Krug is going into his fourth season with the Blues since signing a seven-year, $45.5 million contract in 2020. The former Boston Bruins defenseman has 112 points in 185 regular-season and playoff games with St. Louis.

If Krug is absent at the beginning of the season, it would open up an opportunity for either Tyler Tucker or Scott Perunovich, the young defensemen of the Blues, to secure a consistent position on the team’s defensive lineup. This lineup consists of experienced players such as Colton Parayko, Justin Faulk, Marco Scandella, Nick Leddy, and Robert Bortuzzo.
